ABCs SHARKTANK vs CBCs DRAGONS DEN

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Well if you are a fan of Dragons Den then you might want to be checking out the new American spin off Sharktank; airing this August on ABC.

The show is basically the exact same premise of the Dragons Den, basically a bunch of entrepreneurs wanting to get there business off the ground but they need more cash. So they go up to these self made multi-millionaires and basically pitch what there business is and ask for cash.

The Canadian version of the show (Dragons Den) is honestly not that bad. I have been a fan since season one and I am looking forward to watching the American version (Sharktank) but mainly just for two reasons.

1.Robert Herjavec, who sold his IT security firm at the height of the dot-com bubble for over $100 million.
2.Kevin O'Leary, co-host of Business News Network's SqueezePlay, formerly president of The Learning Company, which was sold to Mattel for $3.7 billion in 1999.

Do you recognize the names? That's right; BOTH of these guys are from the hit show Dragons Den and will both be starring in Shartank.

I find it very funny how they both are on the new show, as well they both will be back for Dragons Den season 3 that premiers this Oct. on CBC. The credits to Sharktank does not mention there names as far as I can tell at this point, but It still makes me wonder how they got chosen for Shartank? I know both of them are friends in real life and live in the states so I guess that makes sense? As well as having experience from running a show like Dragons Den I also would assume they might have a co-producer note or something in there? But I guess we will have to wait and see once the show finally airs.

Below are a couple trailers of the two shows. As usually the American version looks 100 times better as it looks like they have actually invested money in to the show.

Then when you watch the Canadian version it just looks like someone has produced it in there basement. I honestly feel sorry for it and I personally believe like everything else, once Sharktank becomes a big hit Kevin and Robert will leave Dragons Den permanently and go full steam on Sharktank. It's sad but you know it's going to happen. Both Kevin and Robert love money and they will follow the money trail whichever direction it takes them.
