No matter what you call it ,swine flu or H1N1 influenza A. With the deadly outbreak reaching worldwide pandemic status, a leading infectious disease specialist tells how to protect yourself and your family."Fortunately, we have extensive flu preparedness plans in place all over the nation in case it becomes a pandemic," Dr. Herbert DuPont, director of the Center for Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas Officials at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta are gearing up to fight the respiratory disease by releasing stockpiles of antiviral drugs, including Tamiflu, which has proven to be effective against this new strain.
The swine flu, a virus that mostly infects pigs, is thought to spread mainly through the coughing and sneezing of infected people, according to experts (Which to me you don't have to be an expert to get that part.)You cannot catch the swine flu from eating pork, experts say. (So Perez Hilton doesn't have to worry about that) However, to stay on the safe side, cook meat to 160 degrees to kill bacteria and viruses.
"If you do come down with respiratory or flu symptoms coughing, fever, muscle and body aches, and runny nose see your doctor promptly," says Dr. DuPont.
"Most physicians will give you a dose of Tamiflu or run a simple test to see if you have the Type-A virus," he says. Avoid crowds. Open-air sporting events are OK for now, he says, but if possible stay clear of closed venues such as movie theaters until more information on the flu is available.
Wash your hands often with soap and water. Use alcohol-based cleaners and keep wipes handy. "If you shake hands with a person, wash your hands afterward," he suggested.Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Dispose of that tissue after you use it.Avoid touching your fingers to your eyes or face.Surgical face masks are only slightly effective, but the "N95" mask, which is custom fit to your face, may offer you more protection.
As above Picture shows Michael Jackson staying a head of the trend, He is sporting his new swine-flu edition of the mask. Michale has always been a head of the game and is now sitting at home a lone screaming "I told you so, I told you so, please send me all of your little boys and I will protect them"
You can find him auctioning off his new swine flu collection masks in different colours on Ebay.
Looking sharp Michael!
