Billy Bob goes Banana’s (Radio interview)

Monday, April 13, 2009

First we had Joaquin Phoenix, now we have Billy Bob.

Despite winning an Academy Award. Billy Bob Thornton has been taking some time away from acting to focus on his music the last couple years. Apparently doesn't like to talk about his movie career. (Sound familiar?)

So when he was introduced as an "Oscar-winning screenwriter, actor, and director" during an interview with his band, The Boxmasters, on Canada's CBC radio, Billy Bob became pretty ticked.

Initially Billy Bob who appeared dazed ignored questions asked by host Jian Ghomeshi. Then he started giving one-word answers or saying things that were completely off-topic.
For example, when asked when his band formed, he said: "I don't know what you're talking about."

Then he became surly. When Ghomeshi asked if he was passionate about music, Billy Bob shot back: "Would you say that to Tom Petty?"
Later, the band performed a song without Billy Bob because he said he didn't have his instrument.

"I'm a drummer," he snapped. "We don't cart those around at 6 o'clock in the morning."
Seriously I am a fan of his, but what an ass! If you are going to go on the show you might as well try to pre-pare yourself in someway, but nope; Not Billy Bob.

Billy Bob's bizarre appearance was reminiscent of David's Letterman's recent interview with actor-turned-rapper Joaquin Phoenix in February.

Note to actors-turned-musicians: Don't liken your audience to any kind of side dish.
Billy Bob Thornton's band has canceled the remainder of its Canadian tour after unfortunate comments he made on air, according to the Associated Press.

The Boxmasters front man told radio host Jian Ghomeshi of CBC radio's "Q" show that Canadian audiences were... well, blah.

"We tend to play places where people throw things at each other," Billy Bob said. "Here, they just sort of sit there. And it doesn't matter what you say to 'em. ... Its mashed potatoes but no gravy." The fucking Hick said Billy Bob said.

Billy was also apparently ticked off that Ghomeshi started the interview with questions about his film career, a topic that was supposedly off limits. The band then opened for Willie Nelson on Thursday in Toronto and were greeted by boos, catcalls and jibes of "Here comes the gravy." Sounds like a regular old food fight!

The Boxmasters then posted a note on Willie Nelson's site Friday with the cancellation announcement, "due to one band member and several of the crew having the flu."
Maybe it's food poisoning from a bad batch of... gravy? Just saying'.
